For this months Fruity Friday we tried some weird but tasty fruit! We learned all about pomegranates, pineapples and two varieties of apples.
Did you know that the pomegranate fruit is actually a berry? It has between 200 and 1400 little seeds in it! The name pomegranate comes from Latin and it means apple of many seeds! The most interesting fact of all is that it is very difficult to eat a pomegranate!!!!!
The next fruit we tried is a funny looking fruit and a fruit that is very difficult to prepare! It is a pineapple!
Pineapples are delicious! They are packed full with Vitiman C. They grow underground and you can only see their leaves when they are growing. Did you know that it takes 2 years for a pineapple to grow?
Apples were the last thing we tried this month. We learned that there are over 7000 different varieties of apples. Today we tried out two: golden delicious (they really are delicious!!!!) and the pink lady (they really are pink!!!) We learned lots about apples like the fact that they are part of the rose family. We also learned that lots of boys and girls in our class have apple trees in their yard...how lucky they are that they can pick a juicy snack from a tree!!
So that was it for Fruity Friday in October....we wonder what Mrs Shine is going to bring in in November! Watch this space!
