Rhubarb is in season in April and May and it is delicious!
Rhubarb is full of vitamin C and potassium. It has an acidic taste so people usually add lots of sugar to it.
We were very lucky for March Fruity Friday, Mrs Shine let us put sugar in our rhubarb and told us she had another treat in store for us!
The first thing we did was to wash the rhubarb and cut off the ends because you can't eat the leaves.
The next thing we did was to weigh the rhubarb. We were very lucky that we had done weight the week before in maths, it made things much simpler for us! Then we put the rhubarb into our slow cooker.
After that, we weighed out some fair trade sugar and added it to the rhubarb.
Mr. Pecky helped us. He loves fruit and he loves helping out too!
We let the rhubarb and sugar cook away for a few hours in the slow cooker as we got busy doing our schoolwork.
The smell was amazing and we couldn't wait to taste it as Mrs. Shine said she had an extra surprise for us!
Ann and MJ helped Mrs Shine but out the bowls and spoons and then put some ice-cream into them! We couldn't believe it as Mrs. Shine doesn't usually let us have sweet treats! We must have been really excellent all term!
We were all delighted going home with our rhubarb and ice-cream and can't wait to show our family how easy it is to cook up some rhubarb for a nice healthy (ish) spring treat!
