Mrs Shine received a note from Emily's Dad inviting us on a tour of the Post Office! We are such a lucky class. He had heard that we were posting a letter and our mascot, Beaks, to Indiana and said he's show us how to do it!
So we all walked down in the lovely sunshine and met Emily's Daddy. First of all he told us all about the Georgian houses on Bindon Street and all about Bindon Blood. Then we looked at all the Victorian houses around Bank Place where the Post Office is. He told us all about the telephone exchange and we all agreed that we were glad of our modern mobile phones!
Then we got to see the sorting office and learned all about how the post was sorted and delivered. It was very hard work and now its done by machines. Emily's Dad gave us the heads up about our handwriting! If the machines cannot read our handwriting on our letters to Santa, then it gets sent to the dead post room and Santa won't get it. So we have all agreed to do our best handwriting every time we have a pencil in our hands.
Finally, Emily & Niall took our letter to the counter where the lady weighed our parcel. Then we went outside to post it.
We had such a great time. We learned loads from Emily's Dad about the Post Office and about local history! Thank you so much Mr. Barrow, we really appreciated our tour.
