On Friday we had a visit from Postman Jude. He works for our postal service, An Post. Jude works in Shannon. He starts work at 6.30 a.m. delivering letters on his post bike. When he is finished, he has to go back to the office with any parcels that he couldn't deliver. Jude leaves a note in their letterbox to let them know their parcel is waiting for them at the post office. Jude's route takes him 5 hours. He told us that you really need to know your route as some people do not write the name or the number of the house!
In Shannon, An Post delivers 1300 letters a day.
In the afternoon, Jude goes back to the post office to collect his post van. Then he has to drive around to all the post boxes, and the airport, to collect more letters.
We watched a video about how these letters get sorted:
It was great to meet a real post man and learn all about the very important work that they do.
Thank you post man Jude!
